Jimbo Meador has a 100 ton U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s license for both power and sail. He is a certified Master Naturalist and has a custom built boat designed specifically to take small private groups on excursions into the waters less traveled of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. He has over 60 years of experiences plying the waters of the Delta. He has made a living on or from the water during those years. His office is located next to the Bluegill Restaurant on Battleship Parkway.
He has run tug boats, shrimp boats and commercial fishing boats. He worked in the stevedoring business as a Ship’s Superintendent in charge of loading ships. He managed Bon Secour Fisheries Seafood processing plant. He has been a fly fishing guide and fly casting instructor for the Orvis Company. He also worked for the Orvis Company as a Regional Business Manager covering the entire Gulf Coast States. He worked for Hewes Maverick Boat Company, Hell’s Bay Boat Company, and Dragonfly Boat Company. His voice was recorded by a dialect coach for Paramount Pictures and used to develop Tom Hank’s southern accent for the movie Forest Gump. You may have seen him on CBS Sunday Morning, CNN, ESPN, and countless other shows. His writing has been published in Garden and Gun, Sports Afield and other publications.
He was a pioneer in kayak fishing in the early 80’s and was one of the founders of Legacy Paddle Sports and Native Water Craft designing fishing kayaks. He was a pioneer in Standup Paddle Board fishing and helped design fishing paddle boards for Native Water Craft and Dragonfly Paddle Boards. The only job he ever had that was not directly related to the water was when he was in charge of the Beretta Custom Shotgun program for the entire United States.
